I went to the Seoul Digital Forum 2011 last friday!

Since I'm doing the LG Global Challenger project about "the Vertical Farm", I went to the Seoul Digital Forum 2011 last Friday, and which was amazing. I went there to conduct an interview with very famous professor of Columbia university, the USA dr. Dickson Despommier and talk about the vertical farm.

Technically the forum was restricted only for those people who are very well-known in particular area, but I was very lucky to join this forum. When I was walking around the forum and talking with many professors and minister of Korea Agriculture, I felt like I'm already grown-up and it wasn't that bad and actually it was a bit weird.

At first, I was very nervous to meet dr. Despommier, because I had to speak in Englsih to him and I know how my English is, but in the end he was very friendly and easy-going, so my interview was very successful. I'm still so excited about what I've seen and who I've met from this forum. It was really worth having a look.

I'm going back to London!

I'm going back to London!

Ever since I got back from London, there has been a lot of burdens on my shoulder, such as job searching, taking care of my college score and LG Global Challenger. As far as I'm concerned, I'm absolutely exhausted.

All I can think of at the moment is that I can't live like this. In my life there is a very little fun and too much stress. I guess nobody wants to live like me. On the other hand, when I was staying in London, my life was so perfect. I had my life and my best friends and I never felt so stressed. So, this is the reason why I decided to start the massive/stressful LG Global Challenger.

LG Global Challenger is the biggest college student only competition in South Korea and if I'm picked up, me and my team have to go travelling around Europe. Because this competition is about learning something better of other countries, so in order to know what's happening in other countries, we have to visit other countries. Thanks to myself and my team, we passed the first step already and 2 more steps to go! I really wish I can go back to London for a while, otherwise there is really no fun in my life right now.

If you want to make a trip to Europe,,,

If you want to make a trip to Europe,,,

As a person who has been to many many European countries, I'd love to share my marvellous experience with everybody. I've been to the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Swiss, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium and Denmark. Quite a lot, huh?

If you're planning to go to Europe for travelling, I guess you probably want to have a look Paris, Barcelona, Rome, and London, don't you? I know it is very fun to plan a trip, but have you got enough money to cover your entire trip? I don't think so. We are just students who have enthusiasm without money. But like someone said, " If you are desperately want to do something, there will be a way to do it." I guess the biggest problem for us is money. Don't need to give up! Travel can be budgeted. For example, you can use a very nice and cheap flight company called "Easyjet.com". I took it to go to everywhere and once I paid just 30pounds to go to Paris from London and return. And you can also use very cheap accomodations like hostel. When I was staying in Rome, I stayed a very very cheap and nice hostel called "Hostel California". Of course I had to share my room with 6 people, but it didn't matter, because I just paid 5 euro per night and it's really nothing. And also we have to think about what to eat. If you are in London, don't eat out! Because you have to pay for the tax and service charge, etc and these are very expensive. Just pick some stuff from market called "Sainsbury or Tesco" and cook it by yourself. There are many ways of saving money and you shouldn't think because you don't have money, so you can't go to Europe. As I said, there is always a way to sort it out.

Review of World DJ Festival

I just came back from "World DJ Festival!". It was just beyond amazing! I went there with my 2 really good friends. There was a slight mishap to find a proper tube to go to Yangpeong, but in general our trip was very delightful.

Since World DJ Festival is one of the most beloved festival happened in South Korea, it was very worth joining them. It was absolutely massive! There were seven main stages with so many event. The event which caught my attention was "Silent Disco" which I obviously did. It is literally disco in silence. Everybody was wearing headphone and listening to same tune which was sent by a DJ through some kind of signal. How wonderful modern technology is! It was so much fun. If someone had looked us, they would have thought that we were mental. Because they couldn't hear the tune, unless they wore the headphone. It did seem to be a bit mental, but as a person who did it, it was totally amazing. I promise you it is a very efficient way to get rid of all the stress you have.

Plus there were so many people with good fashion style. They seemed to be celebrities and it was so good to have a look that many quirky fashion style at the same time. There was even a girl who was wearing fish-net stocking with clipper!

I just paid 30,000won to go to the festival and every won was priceless. I hope you join it at some point in the future.

I'm so looking forward to "World DJ Festival".

I'm so looking forward to "World DJ Festival".

At World DJ Festival, we can see literally all the hot famous DJs throughout the world and it's one of the biggest festival in Korea and it is mainly about electro music but we can enjoy rock and hip-hop as well. In 2011, it is happening at 양평 on may 6th to 8th. And of course me and my friends already bought the tickets to go. Really can't wait!

Because it is my first time actually going to this amazing festival, so I can't describe it in a very brilliant way, but my friend ,who went to it last year, said "It was very similar to Electro Dance Festival happened in London last year" and I've been to L.E.D (London Electro Dance festival) and it was WOW.

Personally I do like electro music and normally I listen to this kind of music, such as Justice, Sydney Simson or Daft Punk. But this time at Word DJ Festival we can also have a look rock and hip hop and I'm just so excited. I'm really hoping "Gossip" or "Yeah Yeah Yeah" or " Transformer" coming.

Really good thing of this festival is that they are going to introduce really good Korean music as well. I mean not the cheesy idol music which is everywhere in Korea. Gosh! I really do hate those kind of same tune. It's just so tedious and I'm sick of it. I will promise I will keep posting about "World DJ Festival" at my blog.

The Difference - London Street Fashion VS Parisian Chic Look.

The Difference - London Street Fashion VS Parisian Chic Look.

As we know, English and French have been in a love/hate relationship for ages. I guess it's not because of the historical background, it's rather about the distinctive differences. Even though they're right next to each other, both of them have their own unique style, for example; "The famous London street fashion vs Parisian chic look".

On the one hand, English fashion is very famous for its own way of colour-matching which is called "London street fashion". English teenager particularly fancy this style. The crucial point is "Mix and Match"; mixing up many unmatchable items at the same time but in the end it looks lovely. It has been appealing to many young people in the world and now it became one of the most beloved fashion style.

On the other hand, French fashion is normally defined as "Parisian Chic Look". They don't use a lot of colours, but nobody thinks it's tedious, they think it's rather classic. French people care about the ensemble of the clothes, such as the perfect colour tone with perfect cutting.

We can't say which one is better than the other one. Both are too good to argue!

Lanvin loves H&M - Luxury meets the High Street.

Lanvin loves H&M - Luxury meets the High Street.

Personally I fell in love with H&M ever since I saw the collaboration with Lanvin. I really love the fact that H&M collaborate with such a diverse range of designers Comme des Garcons to Lanvin. And Lanvin and H&M is such an exciting mix: luxury meets the high street!

Any fashion house can't symbolise French elegance like Lanvin. Perhaps it's because Lanvin absolutely loves women- regardless of age, body shape or nationality. In cooperation with H&M, Lanvin has designed a colourful part collection for women and men, included feminine party dresses, festive accessories, suite, shirts, quirky details, of course, Lanvin's the famous classic trench coat as well.

Lanvin always insists that "the inspiration for the collection is creations from yesterday". I think that is the reason that there is very distinctive character in Lanvin's collection, all about colours, shapes and flowers, at the very end it's about happy clothes. And thanks to the collaboration between Lanvin and H&M, they could translate the happy clothes moto at Lanvin to very wide audience. I think that was brilliant idea H&M going for luxury rather than Lanvin going for popular in reasonable price. Even I could buy an item from it and I loved it so much. Someone like me, who is a student and no way to make cash, can't afford the price of designer label. Again thanks you so much Lanvin and H&M offering amazing creations for the affordable price!

Rewriting review of Trainspotting.

Drug, swearing, sex, Scottish accent and drug again, how can it more define this movie than this? “Trainspotting”.

This movie is with Edinburgh, Scotland, which has the amazing accent ever, as its background. The thing is I’m not a native speaker and there was no sub-title, so I barely understood what they said in the film, however, without the perfect understanding just with all those stimulative and sensual scenes are fairly enjoyable as it self.

Long story short, it’s about a boy, Renton (Ewan McGregor) who is seriously immersed in lots of drugs. At the beginning of the film, it shows lots of drugs taking of him and his lunatic friends with an ignored baby. He tries to clean up and finish up his out of controlled life but it’s not that easy due to peer pressure.

I know sometimes everybody wants to be so mad and not care about anything but we’re responsible enough not to do like that, aren’t we? Nevertheless, if you desperately want to ruin your life, at least you can get vicarious satisfaction with “Tainspotting”. I strongly recommend you to be mad like mad hatter with it. Buy one bottle of scotch and fasten your belt and watch this movie! You can find yourself get high by the second without any drugs! How wonderful it is!

The Ultimate TV Drama - Skins

The Ultimate TV Drama - Skins

Today, as I enjoyed it so much, I want to introduce you this epic Tv show - Skins . I know quite many people may know and have watched it already, but the latest season 5 finished a few weeks ago and I'd love to share this drama with you guys.

Simply, Skins is mixed up with teenage vandalism, drugs, booze, sex and swearing. Ironically, it's about teenage life but it's not for the underage, it's weird, but for any reason I reckon most of the kids in the world already have watched it and got influenced a lot.

The undeniable charm of Skins must be the twisted and gloomy atmosphere of actors appeared in it. Their life is very aggressive. They're hammered almost every single day, take hard drugs and get laid everything moving. I know it does sound very not classical, but the point is that it is the reflex of real British kids' day life. As I'm seeing Skins, at some point I understand their broken mind, even though they've been shown very ununderstandable behaviour. They've got some very typical issues of British teenager, such as bad relationship with parent, alcohol/drug addiction or very hard love life ,etc. And Who are we to condemn them?

Plus, the tunes of Skins make it more charming. Someone has very good taste of music! You can hear amazing back ground music from almost every scene which is awesome.

Anyway if you're into having a look very realistic portrait of English kids, you can experience it by watching Skins. But I swear you have to be careful not to be immersed in it, even if it's very addictive.

2nd posting! I love "Trainspotting"!

I'm writing this to share the shock I had. Yesterday I saw a very sensational film called "Trainspotting". It's about a boy named Renton (Ewan Mcgregor) from Edinburgh. He's deeply immersed in various drugs, from marijuana to heroine. But he does the best to get out of it, despite the attractiveness of the drugs and peer pressure.

Personally I really enjoyed the darkness of this film. They were absolutely mental and never scared of something, which is impossible to do in Korea. It was kind of vicarious satisfaction and something like an escape from the routine. I don't mean I want to take some pills. I mean I want to be lunatic as badly as I can sometime.

The shock was not because of the drugs scene, well it was rather interesting lol, but because of the accent they have. I know it sounds a bit weird. I thought I was quite good at understanding British accent, however the strong Scottish accent was a "Big Wow".
There is a very distinctive difference between English accent and Scottish accent. Of course I'm not a native speaker, so it may sound unreal. But it's just my personal opinion. I reckon talking about 100times is unnecessary, you'd better have a listen.

Plus, in the film I could hear a lot of English slangs. For example, they said "loo" instead of "toilet" and "banger" instead of sausage, actually it's London Cockney slang. Anyway the film was very weird and twisted in a interesting way, so I recommend you having a look. Prepare a bottle of Scotch and fish and chips and prepare to be shocked! I guarantee you it will be very tempting.

1st blog posting! How to survive in the UK.

How to survive in the UK.

I'm writing this to give some advice to someone who wants to stay in the UK more than a month. I've stayed in London for about a year and I've traveled 10 cities in the UK and 5 European countries. During that time I made about really good 30 friends from very colourful back ground. I'd like to help you settle down in a very easy way.

As soon as you take the first step at Heathrow, the first thing you have to sort out is accommodation. Most of Korean people want to stick to their own nationality, so they're usually sharing a flat with Korean. But I mean, there is no point of speaking in Korean in the UK, isn't it? You'd better surrounded by very exotic environment.

There are some really useful web-sites, such as gumtree.com and 04uk.com. Personally I wouldn't recommend you to use gumtree.com even though it's very popular web-site in England. I've used it a couple of times before, but there were so many peverts who were looking for a girl in a very disgusting way and there were also so many con men too. However, if you are quite confident in speaking in English, you can give it a try. But please be extra careful and choosy.

I reckon, in someway 04uk.com is much better than gumtree.com. It's a Korean web-site which is for Korean people staying in London. There are a lot of flat sharing with foreign people and I've found a really good flat from here. Even better thing is that normally the landlord is Korean, so you can handle all the tricky problems in Korean.

Secondly, I guess the reason you want to leave your county and stay far away from your family is not just about to learn English, it's more likely to experience another culture. The best way to understand different culture is having foreign friends. We have to remember our culture is very different to European's, so we should try hard to understand them. But it doesn't mean that we have to throw away all the crucial things for us and be huge fan of European custom's.

I've seen heaps of Korean in London just went straight back to their flats right after the class and were stuck with their laptop. They never tried to hang out with foreigner. I've asked them why they were doing this. And they answered me "I'm so scared to talk to someone who doesn't look like me and I think my English is not enough to communicate with them". That's all nonsense! Most of European students can't speak English perfectly and they just speak as much as we do. I understand they were worried about severe racism and I have to admit that it still exists in Europe and it happened to me a few times. Although they had heard of the racism like an urban myth, they should have went out to make it better.

Finally, I concluded personality is the key point in surviving in the UK and I strongly suggest that you must go out with people from other countries and have some drinks with them and 6months later, you will find out your English is much better than before.
